The solution was deionized by passing through a column of Amberlite MB-3 and concentrated to dryness. A suspension of the residue in H20 was chromatographed on Diaion HP-20; elution with H20 gave 9(45 mg) and subsequent elution with MeOH afforded 1 (75 mg).Abstract: Five 2-acylindole alkaloids were isolated and identified from the leaves of Pterotaberna inconspicua Stapf., collected in Zaire. The major alkaloids were methuenine and 16-epimethuenine. Vobasine, 6oxomethuenine and methuenine N-oxide occurred in minor amounts. Only the latter alkaloid is apparently a new compound. The triterpenes a-and 1-amyrine were also found to be heavily present in the leaves of this plant.
