Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), composed of aggregates sourced from construction solid waste, has garnered significant attention owing to its notable environmental friendliness. In this study, waterborne epoxy resin (WER) and steel fibers (SFs) were introduced into the RAC to enhance its performance. Orthogonal tests were meticulously designed, with the substitution rate of recycled aggregate (RA), SF dosage and WER dosage as variable factors, to comprehensively analyze the splitting tensile strength and impact resistance of concrete. The impact resistance of concrete was investigated via the drop weight test method. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to scrutinize the microstructure of concrete, investigating the modification mechanism of WER. The results indicated that the addition of SFs exerted the most pronounced influence on the properties of RAC. As the addition of SFs increased from 0 to 1.0%, there were significant enhancements in the splitting tensile strength and impact energy of the specimens. WER exhibited notable improvements, primarily on the splitting tensile strength, while demonstrating an adverse effect on the impact resistance. Utilizing the Weibull distribution theory, the results of the impact tests were fitted and analyzed to predict the impact life of different mixtures. The predicted results showed high correlations with the measured values.

Recent and extensive reports on the development of preparation methods that can lead to obtaining various nanostructured polymeric materials, including the preparation of nanoparticles, nano-capsules, nano-gels, nano-fibres, dendrimers and nano-composites, have been presented in the literature to provide a picture of the complexity of the field, and the diversity of approaching methods. From the data presented by various researchers, it appears that by ensuring a rigorous control of the nano-structuration of polymers and/or by adding nano-particles to the polymer matrices, improvements in structural and functional properties can be achieved in a significant number of polymer systems as a response to the continuous demands of industrial advanced sectors. Until now, most of the studies on polymer blends have been related to the control of their physical and chemical properties, their barrier properties or their electrical conductivity. This paper briefly presents various applications of resins (thermoset polymers) used to synthesize some polymer materials and blends.

This study explores the reinforcement effect of different fibers in an alkaline solution on the mechanical properties of granite residual soil using the single variable method. The macroscopic mechanical properties of the reinforced samples were studied using the unconfined lateral compressive strength test and the drop-weight load test, while the microscopic properties were characterized using techniques such as SME and XRD. The results indicated that the greatest reinforcing effect was attained when the ratio of SiO2/Na2O in the alkaline solution was 0.5 mol with the compressive strength of 4402.85 kPa. At the time, the reinforcing effect of glass fiber in an alkaline solution on granite residual soil was superior to that of basalt fiber. The inclusion of glass fibers and an alkaline solution of 0.5 mol SiO2/Na2O into the granite residual soil exhibited the best capacity for reinforcing, with the maximum impact load and compression reaching 120 kN and 12.1 mm, respectively. The findings of SME analysis revealed that GRS included a significant amount of kaolinite, which, when decomposed in an alkaline solution, generated a gel substance that bound the fibers and soil together and filled the pores between them, thereby enhancing the sample’s compactness. XRD results demonstrated the formation of gel and a small amount of geopolymer in the soil under the alkaline solution of 0.5 mol SiO2/Na2O, which tighten the binding between soil particles and fibers and increase the overall strength.
