Aligned carbon nanotube/molybdenum disulfide hybrids for effective fibrous supercapacitors and lithium ion batteries

Abstract: An aligned carbon nanotube/MoS2 nanosheet hybrid fiber was synthesized to display combined remarkable mechanical, electronic and electrochemical properties. It was used to fabricate flexible fibrous supercapacitors and lithium ion batteries with high specific capacitance of 135 F cm -3 and high specific capacity of 1298 mAh g -1 , respectively.

“…[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28] Similar approaches involve mixing MoS2 with polyaniline nanowires 29 or carbon nanotubes. 19,[30][31][32] 3 However, the composite electrodes described above remain far from optimised as LIB electrodes. Although such approaches generally result in good capacity and improved stability, the rate capability is still not as good as had been hoped.…”

“…Electrode materials were then mixed with polyacrylic acid (as the binder) in 9:1 weight ratio and dispersed in H2O to form a homogeneous slurry. Subsequently, the slurry was uniformly applied onto a Cu foil, and vacuum dried at 25,27,28,67,68 and MoS2/NT (triangles) [30][31][32] electrodes. The filled stars represent our capacity data (extracted from rate data for the 20 wt% composite), normalised to the total anode…”

“…However, its limited energy storage capacity is a big obstacle to practical application. To solve this problem, the active functional components such as MoS 2 , silicon is introduced into the fibrous electrodes, so the electrochemical performance of the battery based on the above electrodes has been greatly improved ,. In order to obtain high‐performance fibrous batteries, Lin et al.…”

“…These fiber‐based SCs are lightweight and thus provide high areal, volumetric, and gravimetric energy storage performance. Some of the fiber‐based SCs make use of active materials, like graphene and carbon nanotubes, transition metal oxides and dichalcogenides, conducting polymers, and many other types of two‐dimensional (2D) layered nanomaterials . They have reasonable degrees of flexibility, i.e., they can be repeatedly bent without significantly altering their energy storage performance .…”
