Alicyclic Polyimide/SiO2 Mixed Matrix Membranes for Water/n-Butanol Pervaporation

Abstract: Alicyclic polyimides (PIs) have excellent properties in solubility, mechanical strength, thermal property, etc. This study developed two types of alicyclic PI-based mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for water/n-butanol pervaporation application, which have never been investigated previously. The fillers were hydrophilic SiO2 nanoparticles. The synthesized PI was mixed with SiO2 nanoparticles in DMAc to make the casting solution, and a liquid film was formed over PET substrate using doctor blade. A dense MMM was fa… Show more

“…Associating with both the advantages of polymeric matrix and inorganic filler, the so-called mixed matrix membranes (polymeric membranes incorporating inorganic fillers) have drawn an increasing attention in effectively improving the pervaporation performance. The tested inorganic filler substances include zeolite, alumina, silica, graphene oxide, MOF, porous 2D or 3D-shaped nanomaterials, and other ceramic nanoparticles [3,7,[35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43].…”
