Algues Fixées de la Côte Atlantique Française Contenant des Substances Antimitotiques

Abstract: 89 samples (82 species) of marine algae of French Atlantic coast have been investigated in vitro for their potential.antimitotic properties, by vegetable tissue culture technique (inhibition of Helianthus tuberosus growth). For each sample, three extracts, prepared with E t 2 0 , then EtOH 99 %, then H 2 0 , have been tested. Some of the most interesting extracts have also been examinated in vitro by "Helianthus tuberosus test-disc", by crown-gall tissue culture technique, and for their cytotoxicity on KB-cell… Show more

“…Toxicity screenings of seaweed species from various geographic regions (Caccamese & Azzolina 1979, Henríquez et al 1979, Caccamese et al 1980, Chénieux et al 1980, Naqvi et al 1980, Ballesteros et al 1992) have shown repeatedly that seaweeds are an important source of bioactive products. Consequently, seaweeds have often been targeted in the search for compounds with pharmacological properties.…”

“…In recent years, evidence for the antitumor activity of marine algae has been accumulating (Jolles et al 1963 ;Hirase & Watanabe 1971 ;Nakazawa et al 1976 ;Kashiwagi et al 1980;Chenieux et al 1980 ;Yamamoto et al 1982) . Recently we have reported antitumor activity in crude aqueous ethanolic dialyzed extracts of Macrocystis pyrifera (MP) against P-388 lymphocytic leukemia (P-388) and Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EA) in mice (Mayer & Panick 1982) .…”
