Alginate–Sodium Sulfate Decahydrate Phase Change Composite with Extended Stability

Abstract: This study reports on the use of sodium alginate to effectively stabilize sodium sulfate decahydrate (Na2SO4·10H2O, SSD) based phase change material (PCM) for application as a thermal energy storage material. Alginate/SSD composite PCMs were prepared by blending SSD with different concentrations of alginate polymer. The resulting composite PCMs demonstrate high phase change enthalpy ∼160 J/g and extended cycling stability compared to existing PCM composites. The analysis carried out by optical microscopy, X-ra… Show more

“…Meng et al [59] used sodium alginate for the stabilization of sodium sulfate decahydrate (Na 2 SO 4 •10H 2 O) (SSD); the SA/SSD systems were prepared by blending SSD with SA at different concentrations. The best composite PCMs exhibited a phase-change enthalpy of up to 160 J/g, and the stabilization effect was attributed to the ionic and hydrogen bond interactions between SA and SSD.…”

“…Plants can grow better in the presence of plant probiotic bacteria because these bacteria carry out a number of various important functions, such as nitrogen fixation and mineral dissolution, among others. Other designs include the application of AMP as phase-change materials for thermal energy storage [222]. The urgent need to meet increasing energy demand and mitigate the environmental impact of fossil fuel combustion is driving large-scale research into efficient and sustainable methods of storing thermal energy.…”

“…Solidum alginate (SA) with controllable viscosity is applied to integrate different components and form the bioink for 3D printing. 45 The specific crosslinking property of SA and loaded MXene nanosheets bring about strong mechanical properties of scaffolds, which could sustain the bone reconstruction. Based on the photothermal property of Ti 3 C 2 , the controllable hyperthermia is employed for bacterial elimination and mediating BBR release, while BBR would further enhance the antibacterial and osteogenic effect.…”
