The process of baryon number transfer due to string junction propagation in rapidity is considered. It has a significant effect in the net baryon production in pp collisions at mid-rapidities and an even larger effect in the forward hemisphere in the cases of πp and γp interactions. The results of numerical calculations in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String model are in reasonable agreement with the data.

Inclusive differential cross sections dσ pA /dx F and dσ pA /dp 2 t for the production of K 0 S , Λ, andΛ particles are measured at HERA in proton-induced reactions on C, Al, Ti, and W targets. The incident beam energy is 920 GeV, corresponding to √ s = 41.6 GeV in the proton-nucleon system. The ratios of differential cross sections dσ pA (K 0 S )/dσ pA (Λ) and dσ pA (Λ)/dσ pA (Λ) are measured to be 6.2 ± 0.5 and 0.66 ± 0.07, respectively, for x F ≈ −0.06. No significant dependence upon the target material is observed. Within errors, the slopes of the transverse momentum distributions dσ pA /dp 2 t also show no significant dependence upon the target material. The dependence of the extrapolated total cross sections σ pA on the atomic mass A of the target material is discussed, and the deduced cross sections per nucleon σ pN are compared with results obtained at other energies.

Energy dependence of transverse mass spectra of kaons produced inp+pandp+p¯interactions: A compilation

The data on m T spectra of K S 0 , K + , and K − mesons produced in all inelastic p + p and p + p interactions in the energy range ͱ s NN = 4.7− 1800 GeV are compiled and analyzed. The spectra are parametrized by a single exponential function ͑dN / m T dm T ͒ = Ce −m T /T , and the inverse slope parameter T is the main object of study. The T parameter is found to be similar for K s 0 , K + , and K − mesons. It increases monotonically with collision energy from T Ϸ 130 MeV at ͱ s NN = 4.7 GeV to T Ϸ 220 MeV at ͱ s NN = 1800 GeV. The T parameter measured in p + p͑p͒ interactions is significantly lower than the corresponding parameter obtained for central Pb+ Pb collisions at all studied energies. Also the shape of the energy dependence of T is different for central Pb+ Pb collisions and p + p͑p͒ interactions.
