BackgroundThe purpose of present study was to examine biological and psychological characteristics of people according to the Sasang typology, which is popular in Korea. We evaluated the Sasang Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) as a measure of temperament, and Body Mass Index (BMI) as a measure of the somatic properties of each Sasang type.MethodsSubjects were 2506 (877 males, 1629 females) outpatients between the ages of 20 through 70 who requested traditional medical assessment and treatment in Korea. The structural validity of the SPQ was examined and its correlation with BMI was analyzed. The SPQ and BMI measures of each Sasang type across age and gender were presented and their differences were analyzed with Analysis of Variance.ResultsConfirmatory factor analysis and path analysis identified an acceptable three-factor structure of the SPQ measuring differences in individual’s behavior, emotion, and cognition. SPQ scores (29.71 ± 1.00, 28.29 ± 0.19 and 26.14 ± 0.22) and BMI scores (22.92 ± 0.09, 25.56 ± 0.10 and 21.44 ± 0.10) were significantly (p < 0.001) different among So-Yang, Tae-Eum and So-Eum Sasang types, respectively.ConclusionsThe results showed that the SPQ and BMI is a reliable measure for quantifying the biopsychological characteristics of each types, and useful for guiding personalized and type-specific treatment with medical herbs and acupuncture.

Sinemanın en temel esin kaynağı insan yaşamıdır ve sinema insanın iç dünyasına yapılacak yolculukta önemli bir araçtır. Dolayısıyla, bireyi anlamaya çalışan bir bilim dalı olarak psikoloji her zaman sinemanın içinde var olmuştur. Bu makale, Türkiye'de 2001 yılında vizyona giren yönetmenliğini Jon Turteltaub'un, senaristliğini Audrey Wells'in yaptığı "İçimdeki Çocuk" filminin Adleryan yaklaşıma göre analizidir. Yazarlar, başrol oyuncusu Russ'ın hayatına Adler yaklaşımı bakış açısıyla odaklanmışlar ve filmi sosyal ilgi, yaşam tarzı, aşağılık duygusu ve üstünlük çabası, üstünlük kompleksi, aile etkisi, yaşam görevleri ve ilk anılar gibi Adler yaklaşımının kavramlarını kullanarak analiz etmişlerdir. Yapılan doküman analizinde ana karakter Russ'ın çocukluk anılarının yaşamı üzerinde iz bıraktığı; kişiliğinin çocukluğunda hissettiği yoğun aşağılık duygusundan etkilendiği; yaşam tarzının, mesleğinin ve diğer kişilerle olan ilişkilerinin de bu yaşam olaylarına göre şekillendiği görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, "İçimdeki Çocuk" filminin Bireysel Psikoloji ile ilgili kuramsal bilginin öğretiminde yaşantısal bir öğrenme materyali olarak kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.

Reliability, Validity, and Significance of Assessment of Sense of Contribution in the Workplace

The purpose of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Sense of Contribution Scale (SCS), a newly developed, 7-item questionnaire used to measure sense of contribution in the workplace. Workers at 272 organizations answered questionnaires that included the SCS. Because of non-participation or missing data, the number of subjects included in the analyses for internal consistency and validity varied from 1,675 to 2,462 (response rates 54.6%–80.2%). Fifty-four workers were included in the analysis of test–retest reliability (response rate, 77.1%). The SCS showed high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α coefficients in men and women were 0.85 and 0.86, respectively) and test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.91). Significant (p < 0.001), positive, moderate correlations were found between the SCS score and scores for organization-based self-esteem and work engagement in both genders, which support the SCS’s convergent and discriminant validity. The criterion validity of the SCS was supported by the finding that in both genders, the SCS scores were significantly (p < 0.05) and inversely associated with psychological distress and sleep disturbance in crude and in multivariable analyses that adjusted for demographics, organization-based self-esteem, work engagement, effort–reward ratio, workplace bullying, and procedural and interactional justice. The SCS is a psychometrically satisfactory measure of sense of contribution in the workplace. The SCS provides a new and useful instrument to measure sense of contribution, which is independently associated with mental health in workers, for studies in organizational science, occupational health psychology and occupational medicine.
