“…11,12 Diabetes negatively affects not only the physical and social lives of the elderly but also their psychological well-being. A diagnosis of diabetes hinders the ability of the elderly to live independently 11 and represents a significant burden to society, both financially and socially. 13 As consistent with these results, mean scores of all subscales except for the subscale of treatment dissatisfaction and total mean score for diabetes burden were observed to be high in this study.…”

“…However, the prevalence of alexithymia has also been found to be as high as 7% among the general population (Steinweg, Dallas, & Rea, 2011) without any link to specific disorders (Cox, Kuch, Parker, Shulman, & Evans, 1994;Praceres et al, 2000;Yoshida, 2000Yoshida, , 2007. It is known that the prevalence of fibromyalgia is greater among women (Hintistan, Cilingir, & Birinci, 2013). A recent study involving patients suffering from chronic pain showed that pain and depression were more likely to get worse over time among those with alexithymia (Saariaho, Saariaho, Mattila, Joukamaa, & Karukivi, 2016).…”

“…It is also noted that personality changes can precede diabetes to DM type 2. For example, many people with DM type 2 are characterized by the presence of alexithymia [3]. Certain personality traits such as alarming, anancastic and dependent personality traits are classically considered as one of the factors of getting DM type 2.…”
