Alergólogica 2015: A National Survey on Allergic Diseases in the Adult Spanish Population

Abstract: Increasing trends were observed for allergic rhinitis, drug allergy, and food allergy, and a decreasing trend was observed for asthma. Findings for other diseases remained practically unchanged. Allergic patients are increasingly complex and present with a myriad of atopic manifestations.

“…The two most common pollens involved in our cases were grasses (Phleum pratense) and olive tree (Olea europaea). Symptoms induced by the former may overlap with PT pollen but in this region olive tree pollen release occurs from the second to the third week of May, with concentrations lower than 400g/m 3 air [29,30], suggesting that this does not contribute importantly to symptoms in this region.…”

“…Adverse drug reactions are a major burden on healthcare systems due to their incidence (10%‐20% of hospitalized patients and up to 25% of outpatients) and their severity. Adverse drug reactions include drug hypersensitivity reactions (DHRs), which occur in 15% of cases, being the third cause of allergy after rhinitis and asthma, with a significant increase in prevalence over last years . Besides, an increase in severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) among children (reaching 100 cases/year) has been observed, probably due to the active pharmacovigilance programmes …”

“…DHRs are clinically classified as immediate reactions (IRs) (1‐6 hours afterdrugintake) causing urticaria, angioedema, or anaphylaxis, or nonimmediate reactions (NIRs) (>1 hour after drug intake), ranging from maculopapular exanthema or fixed drug eruption (FDE) to SCARs such as Stevens‐Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) or single‐organ reactions such as drug‐induced liver disease (DILI) and drug‐specific reactions such as abacavir hypersensitivity syndrome (Table ).…”
