“…Additionally, males, especially in the younger age groups (17-36 years), were responsible for the majority of drinking and driving episodes, as well as related crashes in all 3 provinces. This demographic is usually associated with risky behaviors (Giang et al 2008;Pham et al 2010), which would be unlikely to be affected by large-scale communication campaigns alone.…”

Scales such as AUDIT 5,14,17,[19][20][21][22][23][24] , CAGE 3,11,25 , MAST 11 , and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) 10,26 can also be used. The prevalence of alcohol consumption among the rural population worldwide varies greatly, ranging from 1.4% 10,11,14,22,27 to 64% 12,…”

“…Moreover, few publications have offered evidence to predict the co-occurring smoking and drinking among youth in Vietnam. Some recent studies report that certain subgroups of adolescents have much higher rates of smoking and drinking (Giang et al, 2008;Guindon et al, 2008;Hoang et al, 2010). The male smoking rate ratio, for example, is 10 times higher than women smoking rate, men also smoking significantly more cigarettes per day than women (Giang et al, 2008;Guindon et al, 2008;Hoang et al, 2010).…”

There is, however, growing concern about changes in patterns of smoking and drinking among youth in Vietnam (Nguyen et al, 2012).…”
