Alcohol, Cigarette, and Illegal Substance Consumption Among Medical Students

Abstract: This study investigated addictive substance use by French medical students. A cross-sectional survey was distributed to 255 participants randomly selected from 1,021 second- to sixth-year medical students. Questionnaires were self-administered and included questions on sociodemographic characteristics, mental health, and alcohol (The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test [AUDIT test]), tobacco (Fagerstrom test), and illegal substance consumption (Cannabis Abuse Screening Test [CAST test]). “…Lo studio ha voluto indagare la prevalenza del consumo rischioso e dannoso di alcol e di tabacco in una popolazione di studenti universitari italiani, ad oggi riconosciuta da diversi autori come popolazione a rischio sia per la dipendenza da alcol (Miquel et al, 2016;O'Neill et al, 2015;Campos et al, 2011;Reavley et al, 2011;English et al, 2011;Beenstock et al, 2010) sia per la dipendenza da tabacco (Chopra et al, 2015;Alvur et al, 2014;Nasirian et al, 2013) o per entrambe le dipendenze (Gignon et al, 2015;Rueger et al, 2012). “…Tres de cada diez estudiantes presentó dependencia alcohólica, resultado similar a investigaciones realizadas en Estados Unidos y Francia, donde identificaron que un tercio de los estudiantes de medicina presentaban criterios de abuso/dependencia alcohólica, y que una proporción similar de los estudiantes eran bebedores de riesgo o considerados bebedores perjudiciales (11% para los bebedores de riesgo y 21% para los bebedores perjudiciales) 14,15 .
