‘Alcohol — Antabuse’ Syndrome in Patients Receiving Metronidazole During Gynaecological Treatment

Abstract: Three case histories are used to describe the 'Antabuse-Iike' reaction that patients may suffer if they drink alcohol whilst taking Metronidazole. Approximately 1 to 10 patients may be affected and it is emphasised that prescribing physicians should actively warn their patients about the possibility of this drug interaction when they prescribe Metronidazole.
