Albayzín-2014 evaluation: audio segmentation and classification in broadcast news domains

Abstract: Audio segmentation is important as a pre-processing task to improve the performance of many speech technology tasks and, therefore, it has an undoubted research interest. This paper describes the database, the metric, the systems and the results for the Albayzín-2014 audio segmentation campaign. In contrast to previous evaluations where the task was the segmentation of non-overlapping classes, Albayzín-2014 evaluation proposes the delimitation of the presence of speech, music and/or noise that can be found sim… Show more

“…ALBAYZIN evaluation campaigns comprise an internationally open set of evaluations supported by the Spanish Thematic Network on Speech Technologies (RTTH 1 ) and the ISCA Special Interest Group on Iberian Languages (SIG-IL 2 ), which have been held biennially since 2006. These evaluation campaigns provide an objective mechanism to compare different systems and are a powerful way to promote research on different speech technologies [77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86].…”

“…IberSPEECH held audio segmentation challenges in 2010 [1] and 2014 [2], while MIREX held music detection challenges in 2015 [3] and 2018 [4]. The goal of the audio segmentation challenges in the IberSPEECH 2014 was to segment and label audio documents indicating where speech, music, and/or noise were present.…”

“…Consequently, research works focused on detecting speech, rather than music. The best system in the 2014 [2] challenge combined the results of two subsystems. The first subsystem uses the hidden Markov model (HMM) to classify the non-overlapping class.…”
