Alanine Transaminase Level in a Healthy Population in Morocco

Abstract: A little is known about the prevalence of elevated alanine transaminase in a Moroccan healthy population. Our aim was to search for the upper limit of normal alanine transaminase in the blood donors and then to apply the upper limit of normal alanine found in the population so as to assess the prevalence of subjects with abnormal transaminase level. We then, investigated for factors associated with increased level of transaminase in our population. This study was carried out on 14071 blood donors, (74.1% of me… Show more

“…Similar prevalence was found in the Casablanca BD (Baha et al 2013). These results were predictable since the hepatitis B incidence in the overall Moroccan population declined from 24·8 in 1999 to 3·2 in 100 000 citizen in 2010 (Santé en chiffre, 2010, Laouina et al, 2012). The most probable explanation for the decrease in the prevalence of HBsAg among BD in Morocco is the introduction of the HBV vaccination.…”

“…These results could be influenced by differences in serum AST and platelet counts between males and females. Females tend to have lower serum AST than males until the ninth decade when the disparity is reversed (Laouina, et al, 2012).…”
