Alan C. Walker (1938–2017)

Abstract

Alan Cyril Walker was born on August 23, 1938 in the industrial city of Leicester in the English Midlands. His relatives on both sides of his fam-Walker was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 14 months before he died on November 20, 2017. During the last year of his life, he faced his impending death with high-hearted courage, good humor, and a degree of clinical detachment. All of us who knew him as a friend or benefited from his discoveries, knowledge, wisdom, and help will long remember his confident, East Midlands-accented voice and his sudden, slightly crooked grin. We mourn our loss, and perceive that our lives and our profession are diminished by his passing. ORCID Matt Cartmill
