“…N , N -Dimethylformamide, methanol, and CH 3 CN (high-performance liquid chromatography) were purchased from Merck, all of the solvents were of spectroscopic grade for the optical spectroscopy studies, and they were dried according to the standard procedures prior to use. Mono­(azidomethyl)­ferrocene ( 1 ), the receptor 2 , and 4 were synthesized according to literature procedures. The reactions were monitored by thin-layer chromatography on silica-gel plates, and column chromatography was conducted on silica gel (mesh 60–120) in a column of 2.5 cm diameter.
