Aktuelles Unfallgeschehen auf österreichischen Skipisten

Abstract: Modern skiing equipment and optimised slope preparation may be at least partly responsible for the decreased injury risk on ski slopes which is supported by the observation of a reduced falling frequency. Future preventive measures should focus on a reduction of knee injuries in female skiers.

“…Despite the large number of skiers, the currently calculated injury rate in Austria is less than one injury per 1000 skier days [3]. The knee joint represents the most commonly injured body part accounting for about one-third of all injuries in recreational skiers, however with a distinctive difference between sexes [3][4][5]. Female recreational skiers have twice the knee injury prevalence of male skiers and the ACL injury risk is three times greater in female skiers [4][5][6].…”

“…1 Previously, fractures were more common, but since these technical changes, injuries of the ligaments of the knee have increased. 2 To prevent injury effectively, we should identify modifiable risk factors that can be targeted through exercise and training.…”
