Abstract:Ischemic preconditioning, an endogenous protective mechanism to salvage ischemic myocardium, was described nearly 25 years ago; however, there has been little to no clinical translation. Further, there has been a critical lack of knowledge to understand the molecular mechanisms that bring about the protection. Nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB) and protein kinase A (PKA) are key regulators of gene transcription in the heart and have contradictory roles in cell death and survival. Activation of NF‐κB and PKA has be… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
