This survey study was aimed at determining the Rational Drug Use (RDU) behaviors and health perceptions of the staff working in a state university.The population of this cross-sectional study consists of all the staff working in a state university in Turkey. The study sample consisted of a total of 342 staff including academicians, administrative personnel, janitors and security guards. The data were collected through an online questionnaire due to pandemic precautions. The obtained data were recorded on the SPSS version 18 program and descriptive statistics, normality tests, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Spearman correlation were used in the analysis.The mean age of the participants in the study were found to be 36,54±8,05. 79,2% of the participants were male. 29,2% of them had a PhD. 44,4% were academic staff working in all departments while 55,6% included administrative personnel, janitors and security guards. The RDU knowledge mean scores of the participants (35,69±5,30) were considered sufficient. It was found that factors such as personal and parental educational status, profession, socioeconomic level, family type, gender, and distance from the health center of the residence had important effects on Rational Drug Use (p<0,05). The participants' health perceptions were at moderate level (51,15±7,97). It was revealed that educational status, profession, and socioeconomic level affected the perception of health (p<0,05). To improve rational drug use and health perceptions, it is crucial to reveal the current situation, and to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes of individuals. Training, studies, and social policies aimed at promoting the perception of health and rational drug use should be made widespread.

Amaç: Bu araştırma ile kronik hastalığı olan ve olmayan bireylerde akılcı ilaç kullanımı, sağlık anksiyetesi ve siberkondriyi değerlendirmek amaçlandı. Yöntem: Araştırma, Kasım 2020-Nisan 2021 tarihleri arasında 100 kronik hastalığı olan birey ve 105 kronik hastalığı olmayan birey ile yürütüldü. Rational drug use is a pivotal concept linked with morbidity and mortality. Immigration plays a significant role as a determinant affecting individuals’ health-related attitudes, behaviors, and the pursuit of health services. Within this context, the study was initiated to assess the factors influencing health literacy and rational drug use among Syrian immigrants in Istanbul. A cross-sectional study was undertaken on 542 Syrian adults utilizing a three-part questionnaire encompassing sociodemographics, rational drug use, and the e-health literacy scale (eHEALS). With an average age of 39.19 ± 13.10 years, a majority of participants believed medications should solely be doctor-prescribed (97%) and opposed keeping antibiotics at home (93.7%). Yet, 62.5% thought excessive herbal medicine use was harmless. The mean eHEALS score stood at 20.57 ± 7.26, and factors like age, marital status, income, and duration of stay in Turkey influenced e-health literacy. Associations were seen between low e-health literacy and being female, being older, having a lower education level, and regular medication use. Syrian immigrants displayed proper knowledge concerning antibiotics yet exhibited gaps in their understanding of general drug usage, treatment adherence, and herbal medicines. Approximately 80.3% had limited health literacy, pointing to the need for targeted interventions for enhanced health and societal assimilation.
