The level of electricity generation in Nigeria is presently grossly inadequate. Consequently, the productive sectors of the economy do not presently enjoy an uninterrupted supply of electrical energy from the country's national grid and the downtime is in most cases too much. Using diesel-fueled electric power generators has become an attractive alternative to meet the shortfall in the energy supply gap. In this study, the levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the vicinity of the diesel-fueled electric power generators operated by Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria were investigated with a view to ascertain the priority levels and carcinogenic PAHs. Since the generators were recently relocated, the study covered the old and the new sites. Polyurethane foam passive samplers were deployed at the old and new sites for 28 days. They were subjected to sohxlet extraction using dichloromethane to extract the PAHs from the PUFs. Cleaning up and elution were done with 5 g of silica gel column and 40 mL 1:1, DCM:Hexane followed by concentration in a rotary evaporator using a stream of nitrogen. Gas chromatographymass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was used to determine of PAHs. The Ʃ priority PAHs around the old and new sites were in the range of 4.43-5.44 μg/m 3 and 4.47-5.35 μg/m 3 , respectively. The Ʃ carcinogenic PAHs at the sites were 2.98 -3.42 μg/m 3 and 3.35 -4.17 μg/m 3 . Higher molecular weight PAHs dominated the measured PAHs with benzo[a]pyrene being the most significant contributor to the computed total toxicity equivalence (TTEQ). The PAHs diagnostic ratios affirmed that the measured PAHs were from dieselrelated sources. The levels of the PAHs obtained in this study are above permissible limits specified for ambient air; hence, the air around the power plant is considered unsafe.

Air quality impacts people's health and daily life, affects the sensitive ecosystems, and even restrains a country's development. By collecting and processing the time series data of Air Quality Index (AQI) of 363 cities of China from Jan. 2015 to Mar. 2019, we dedicated to characterize the universal patterns, the clustering and correlation of air quality of different cities by using the methods of complex network and time series analysis. The main results are as follows: 1) The Air Quality Network of China (AQNC) is constructed by using the Planar Maximally Filtered Graph (PMFG) method. The geographical distances on the correlation of air quality of different cities have been studied, it is found that 100 km is a critical distance for strong correlation. 2) Seven communities of AQNC have been detected, and their patterns have been analyzed by taking into account the Hurst exponent and climate environment, it is shown that the seven communities are reasonable, and they are significantly influenced by the climate factors, such as monsoon, precipitation, geographical regions, etc. 3) The motifs of air quality time series of seven communities have been investigated by the visibility graph, for some communities, the evolutionary patterns of the motifs are a bit stable, and they have the long-term memory effects. While for others, there are no stable patterns.

This study investigated the spatial distribution and toxicity potential of gaseous criteria air pollutants in the ambient air around a typical haulage truck stop. ToxiRAE II Gas Monitors were used to monitor ambient concentrations of the criteria pollutants both for dry season and wet season. Five sampling points were considered, and a control sampling point was set at about 55 km away from the influence of activities of the truck stop. The results showed the dry season average 24-h concentrations of NO 2 with the range of 0.064-0.335 ppm while CO ranged between 0.919 and 4.911 ppm. During the wet season, the average concentrations of NO 2 ranged between 0.003 and 0.052 ppm, while CO concentration ranged between 0.000 and 4.798 ppm. The result showed average concentration of CO at all sampling points for both dry and wet season was below the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Environment (FEPA) national air quality standard of 10 ppm. However, average concentration of NO 2 at all sampling points during the dry season were above FEPA and World Bank air quality standards except sampling point D. The results also showed the toxicity potential which exceeded unity at some of the designated sampling points is of major concern especially among people with respiratory or heart disease. The study showed the haulage truck stop contributes greatly to the ambient gaseous criteria air pollutants.
