Air Pollution

Abstract: This review is extracted from the literature from January 1995 to December 1996 and is an extension of literature previously discussed (A1). The major source of information was Chemical Abstracts Selects: Pollution Monitoring and Air Pollution (Books and Reviews). The organization consists of two major divisions: gaseous methods, which have single-letter designations before reference numbers, and aerosol and particulate methods, which have twoletter designations before reference numbers. Areas that are included… Show more

“…The determination of gas-phase trace components in complex mixtures is an ongoing challenge for the skills of analytical chemists. In present-day practice, a variety of techniques are used, ranging from sampling on liquid absorbers to in situ detection of unstable isotopes (for recent compilations see, e.g., refs −11). Analytical instrumentation includes but is not limited to absorption spectrometers, luminescence detectors, chromatographic devices, charged particle detectors, etc.…”

“…Malone 216 has also written a review on the residues of compounds including those mentioned above. Several publications have dealt with these fumigants [217][218][219][220][221][222][223][224] and their contribution to air pollution 225 and environmental analysis. 226,227 Since the post-World War II era, carbon tetrachloride and ethane dibromide have been banned as fumigants because of their toxicity.…”

“…VOCs can either be sampled directly into a gas chromatograph or to stainless steel or Teflon cylinders or alternatively they can be pumped through sampling tubes, filled with sorbent materials (carbotrap, carbosieve, tenax, etc.) [8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. Most frequently the sampling is followed by desorption of VOCs into a cryotrap, and separation on chromatographic column.…”
