Ailanthus excelsa leaf extract: Chemical characterization, antischistosomal activity, and in silico study of isolated phenolic compounds as promising thioredoxin glutathione reductase inhibitors

Abstract: Hepatic schistosomiasis is the most well-known chronic condition, with a variety of clinical symptoms. In the current study, the metabolite profile of the Ailanthus excelsa leaf butanol extract was investigated using chromatographic isolation and Liquid chromatography electrospray ionization /mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) analysis. Also, its schistosomicidal effect was examined in vivo regarding disease progression in a comparative experimental study to praziquantel (PZQ). The parasitological parameters (to… Show more

“…Molecular docking is a computational technique that shows the binding affinities and possible interactions of docked compounds with the active sites of target proteins [ 37 ]. Coumarin-type compounds were docked at the binding sites of the Hp IMPDH 3D model and the urease enzyme to predict their mechanism of action as anti- H. pylori .…”

“…In addition, antischistosomal agents such as flavonoids, polyphenols, and tannins have been reported to ameliorate infection-related liver damage and oxidative stress (Mohammed et al, 2023). Grape seed extracts have antimicrobial and antioxidant activity (Andrade et al, 2019;Krasteva et al, 2023).…”
