AIIMDs: An Integrated Framework of Automatic Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy Diagnosis for Muscle

Abstract: Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy (IIM) is a common skeletal muscle disease that relates to weakness and inflammation of muscle. Early diagnosis and prognosis of different types of IIMs will guide the effective treatment. Interpretation of digitized images of the cross section muscle biopsy, which is currently done manually, provides the most reliable diagnostic information. With the increasing volume of images, the management and manual interpretation of the digitized muscle images suffer from low efficiency a… Show more

“…Digital filters are useful for image pre-processing tasks. A variety of filters have been used in the literature to extract the properties of images [25][26][27][28][29]. Prewitt operators are used to detecting edges along the x and y directions to yield masks G x and G y , respectively.…”

“…Unfortunately, the process of manual interpretation is time consuming, challenging and error-prone due to their large size and inter/intra-observer variation [1]- [3]. To address these problems and improve the efficiency of the procedure, different content-based image retrieval (CBIR) methods for automated computer aided diagnosis (CAD) have been proposed [4]- [10]. CBIR aims to directly utilize a visual query to find the most similar cases (nearest neighbors) among the images previously diagnosed and stored in databases.…”
