A dark sector with a solitonic component provides a means to circumvent the problem of generically low annihilation cross sections of very heavy dark matter particles. At the same time, enhanced annihilation cross sections are necessary for indirect detection of very heavy dark matter components beyond 100 TeV. Non-thermally produced dark matter in this mass range could therefore contribute to the cosmic γ -ray and neutrino flux above 100 TeV, and massive Skyrmions provide an interesting framework for the discussion of these scenarios. Therefore a Higgs portal and a neutrino portal for very heavy Skyrmion dark matter are discussed. The Higgs portal model demonstrates a dark mediator bottleneck, where limitations on particle annihilation cross sections will prevent a signal from the potentially large soliton annihilation cross sections. This problem can be avoided in models where the dark mediator decays. This is illustrated by the neutrino portal for Skyrmion dark matter.

In this short article, prepared for the proceedings of the Corfu Meeting 2016, I review three aspects of skyrmion/baryon black hole hair which have been investigated recently [1,2] and which I presented in my talk in Corfu. First, I will argue that one can detect the classical skyrmion/baryon hair which, as it is well-known [8], a small enough black hole can carry in classical scattering experiments of waves. Second, I will show that, under certain assumptions which I will point out, a black hole can not only carry the known classical skyrmion/baryon hair but also a quantum skyrmion/baryon hair which can be detected in Aharonov-Bohm type experiments in which a probe string encloses the black hole. In contrast to the known classical skyrmion/baryon hair, the Aharonov-Bohm type quantum skyrmion/baryon hair can be carried by black holes of arbitrary size. Third, I will argue that from the point of view of a low-energy observer who can measure the Aharonov-Bohm type skyrmion/baryon hair of a black hole, black holes respect Skyrme topological charge/baryon number.

Higher-order derivative terms are considered as replacement for the Skyrme term in an Einstein-Skyrme-like model in order to pinpoint which properties are necessary for a black hole to possess stable static scalar hair. We find two new models able to support stable black hole hair in the limit of the Skyrme term being turned off. They contain 8 and 12 derivatives, respectively, and are roughly the Skyrme-term squared and the so-called BPS-Skyrme-term squared. In the twelfth-order model we find that the lower branches, which are normally unstable, become stable in the limit where the Skyrme term is turned off. We check this claim with a linear stability analysis. Finally, we find for a certain range of the gravitational coupling and horizon radius, that the twelfth-order model contains 4 solutions as opposed to 2. More surprisingly, the lowest part of the would-be unstable branch turns out to be the stable one of the 4 solutions.
