The low productivity of shallot 'Bima Brebes' during the rainy season contributed to increasing Indonesia's economic inflation. This study aimed to assess the sustainability of shallot cultivation in low-organic sandy clay soil during the rainy season in South Sumatera, Indonesia. The study observed the farmer group's actual shallot cultivation method. The research findings were expected to explain the phenomenon of shallot production (Cohen f2) at least 0.50 with a maximum error rate (α) of 0.05 and a probability of making the right decisions (1-β) at least 80%. The variables included climate, soil characteristics, cultivation methods carried out by farmers, plant growth, and shallot production. The cultivated field has sufficient porosity to drain water quickly. Still, it tends to make compaction easier. The diameter of the shallot bulb produced fell into category 1 (size over 2.5 cm) by as much as 31.0%, category 2 (between 2.0-2.5 cm) by 38.0%, and category 3 (between 1.5-2.0 cm) by 17.8%. The loss caused by Fusarium disease was 20.29%. Sustainability of low disease-resistance shallot variety cultivation in low-carbon sandy clay soil during rainy seasons was possible by regulating soil humidity rather than fungicide application.

Identification of the appearance of shallot accession is needed in the selection of new superior varieties of shallots. Therefore, performance identification of shallot accessions from various parental backgrounds was carried out. Thirty-four shallot accessions were planted on open land in Lembang highlands (1250 m asl) from May to September 2022. The performance of shallot plants was observed starting from percentage of flowering, number of tillers, plant fresh weight, bulb dry weight, weight loss, bulb number, weight, height and diameters of bulbs and cloves. The data were analysed descriptively. The results showed that there were 11 accessions with 100% flowering percentage, 10 accessions with more than 5 tillers per plant, 5 accessions with weight loss potential of less than 40%, 3 accessions with more than 10 bulbs per plant, 6 accessions with bulb weight more than 10 grams, 11 accessions with bulb diameter more than 2.5 cm and 6 accessions with clove diameter more than 2.5 cm. There were 2 accessions that have a combination of superior traits, namely accessions BLK and C89.

Floating agricultural cultivation presents a viable solution for cultivating in water-rich regions. Among the crops suitable for this system is shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.). This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of sulfur application on shallot plant characteristics (Allium ascalonicum L.) in floating cultivation. Conducted in May 2023 at the Faculty of Agriculture's research pond, Sriwijaya University, the research employed a completely randomized design with sulfur applications (S1: 0 kg ha-1, S2: 30 kg ha-1, S3: 60 kg ha-1, S4: 120 kg ha-1, S5: 240 kg ha-1). Results revealed that tuber diameter exhibited strong determination values (R2: 75%), leaf length, number of leaves, and number of tillers exhibited moderate determination values (R2: 51%, 57% and 56%, respectively), while the relative growth rate showed a weak determination value (R2: 40%). The 60 kg ha-1 sulfur treatment demonstrated the highest chlorophyll content.
