Agrometeorological Requirements of Maize Crop Phenology for Sustainable Cropping—A Historical Review for Romania

Abstract: Identifying regional variations and agronomical records can turn into a function of magnitude and timing for sustainable maize production. The crop characteristics are directly related with the temperature and precipitation from the growing season. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to highlight maize crop requirements from the most suggestive records from Romania. A literature search was performed based on keywords related to both maize crop and agrometeorological requirements. After the evaluation of … Show more

“…The interactions between parameters were analyzed with scatterplots, and regressions were calculated for each bi-factorial interaction with the "stats" package from the R platform [51]. Regressions were further verified with the "MASS" package [53,54]. Pearson correlations between parameters were calculated with the package "Hmisc" and all significant correlations were analyzed [55].…”

“…(Erenstein et al, 2022). This is possible as maize is a crop characterized by a great phenotypic plasticity (Liu et al, 2021), which enables its production in a wide range of conditions -from 50°N to about 45°S (Vâtcă et al, 2021), from 0 to over 3800 m.a.s.l. (Ramirez-Cabral et al, 2017), and in different climates.…”

“…Thus, most of the analyzed area is covered by agricultural land (Figure 1), which accounts for 78% of the study area and mainly consists of arable land (about 70% of the total study area). Analyzing phenological changes can be crucially important in the context of such environmental changes which can generate significant implications for the productivity of agricultural crops, such as maize (Zea mays L.), the phenology of which is strongly dependent on air temperature conditions [74].…”
