Aging and cancer epigenetics: Where do the paths fork?

Abstract: Aging, a quasi-universal biological phenomenon, is inextricably linked to the development of cancer (de Magalhães, 2013).Understanding the mechanisms underlying the causative role that this gradual, time-dependent accumulation of molecular damage plays in disease etiology is crucial to designing interventions seeking to improve our healthspan-that is, the lifespan free of disease.
