Ö ÖZ ZE ET T A Am ma aç ç: : Meningiomlar, histolojik derece ve subtiplerine göre değişen oranlarda nüks riskine sahip, erişkin yaş grubunun en sık görülen primer santral sinir sistemi tümörleridir. Çalışmamızda Karadeniz Bölgesinin en büyük üçüncü basamak hastanesinde tanı almış meningiom olgularının klinikopatolojik özelliklerinin gözden geçirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca çeşitli tümörlerde invazyon ve metastaz yeteneği ile ilgili olduğu bildirilen CD147 molekülünün meningiomlardaki ekspresyonunun, histolojik subtip, klinik nüks ve Dünya Sağlık Örgütü (WHO) kriterlerine göre belirlenen tümör derecesi ile ilişkisi incelenmiştir. G Ge er re eç ç v ve e Y Yö ön nt te em ml le er r: : 2003-2012 yılları arasında Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi hastanesinde meningiom tanısı almış 311 olgu klinik ve histopatolojik özellikleri açısından retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. WHO derecelerine ve klinik takiplerine göre belirlenen 101 olguda CD147 ile immünhistokimyasal çalışma yapıldı. B Bu ul lg gu ul la ar r: : Olgularımızın 223'ü (%71,6) kadın, 88'i (%28,4) erkektir. Yaş dağılımı 8-92 arasında olup ortanca yaş 55 yıldır. 267 olgu (%85,9) derece I, 39 olgu (%12,5) derece II, 5 olgu (%1,6) derece III olarak yorumlanmıştır. Klinik takibine ulaşılabilen olgularda (n=254) nüks oranı %11,4'dür (n=29). İm-münhistokimyasal yöntemle, %73,5 meningiom olgusu CD147 ile pozitif boyanmıştır. CD147 ekspresyonu, WHO derecesinde artış ve nüks açısından anlamlı fark göstermemiştir (sırasıyla p=0,261, p=0,220). Challenges and opportunities of globalisation for an independent small manufacturer

Purpose Over the past few decades, academic debates on small- and medium-sized establishments (SMEs) have focused on the challenges of globalisation, especially for the independent small producers outside the niche markets. However, the purpose of this paper is to highlight the limits of these sorts of evaluations arguing that globalisation can also provide opportunities for the valuable contributions of such enterprises. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on an ethnographic case study in Turkey, inquiries in the paper are essentially predicated on unstructured conversations with the owner/manager of a shipyard investigated, workplace observations and supplementary conversations with employees as well as elite interviews with the Portal Authorities. Additional interviews were also conducted with the owner/managers of three other shipyards. Findings The evidence suggests that the opportunities of globalisation can be consolidated with certain HRM strategies including a tailored demarcation of work-life balance, strategized retention for skills shortage, individualised grievance resolutions, employees-led work design, team work, “in-turn” and “mobile” employment. Likewise, logistic management strategies such as downsizing, investment diversification, “queasy-niche” production, use of communication technologies, networking and opening up to global markets may prove highly useful. Even so, the sustainability of independent smaller businesses requires responsive trade regulations about, for instance, tender offers, fair competition and the conflict of interests in addition to “tough-love policies” to protect employment rights. Originality/value The paper rectifies the lack of systematic research into the implications of globalisation for the SMEs in shipbuilding industry and their managerial responses.

Papillary and rhabdoid meningiomas are pathologically World Health Organization (WHO) grade III. Any correlation between clinical prognosis and pathologic component is not clear. We analyzed the prognoses of patients with meningiomas with a rhabdoid or papillary component compared to those of patients with anaplastic meningiomas. From 1994 to June 2013, 14 anaplastic meningiomas, 6 meningiomas with a rhabdoid component, and 5 meningiomas with papillary component were pathologically diagnosed. We analyzed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, extent of removal, adjuvant treatment, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and pathologic features of 14 anaplastic meningiomas (group A), 5 meningiomas with a predominant (≥50%) papillary or rhabdoid component (group B1), and 6 meningiomas without a predominant (<50%) rhabdoid or papillary component (group B2). Homogeneous enhancement on MRI was associated with improved PFS compared to heterogeneous enhancement (p=0.025). Depending on pathology, the mean PFS was 134.9±31.6 months for group A, 46.6±13.4 months for group B1, and 118.7±19.2 months for group B2. The mean OS was 138.5±24.6 months for group A and 59.7±16.8 months for group B1. All recurrent tumors were of the previously diagnosed pathology, except for one tumor from group B1, which recurred as an atypical meningioma without a papillary component. Group B1 tumors showed a more aggressive behavior than group B2 tumors. In group B2 cases, the pathologic findings of non-rhabdoid/papillary portion could be considered for further adjuvant treatment.
