“…Demographic variables were distributed evenly among intrinsic breast cancer subtypes ( Table 1). Diagnosis of breast cancer in women younger than 40 years old correlated with a higher risk of metastasis (Table 3and 4) confirming our previous report of aggressive behavior in younger patients [27,28]. In relation to distant metastasis, younger age and late menopause were associated with increased risks and the odds ratio was higher in the luminal subtype for women younger than 40 years old and in TNBC for women with menopause older than 50 years old.…”

“…According to the clinical characteristics of primary cancer, patients with bilateral breast cancer were more frequently diagnosed in more advanced diseases, although the significant association was found only in the tumor size (T status, Table 3 ). Our last results might indicate the involvement of metastatic process of cancer cells in the development of contralateral cancer because the risk factors are overlapping with risks of distant spread as shown in our previous report [ 8 , 15 ]. However, some studies reported a lack of association between advanced tumor and risk of bilateral cancer [ 5 , 12 , 16 ].…”

“…In addition, the standard adjuvant treatment after surgery was not delivered due to loss of follow-up for 4 years until the presentation of distant metastasis. Our case also reflects the complexity of sociocultural factors in the management of breast cancer in LMICs, in which low cancer awareness, a misconception concerning cancer treatments and cures, and barriers to accessing medical treatment are associated with delayed diagnosis, late-stage presentation, and a higher risk of metastasis [ 17 20 ]. Similar factors are associated with low and non-adherence to medical treatment of breast cancer.…”
