Agent System for Operating Web-Based Sensor Nodes via the Internet

Abstract: Web-based sensor nodes, which have a Wireless LAN and a Web server for remote monitoring, could be used with little effort by users thanks to their easy installation, monitoring, and management. To realize a sensor network with high scalability, fewer legacy problems, and general versatility, we propose an agent system for operating Web-based sensor nodes via the Internet. The agent system handles many kinds of sensor nodes flexibly and uniformly with the agent program and configuration files. Constructing all… Show more

“…A dust-and water-proof casing of the Field Server, equipped also with a forced-draft pipe and electric fan, allows precise monitoring of air temperature and humidity. Field Servers are controlled by a management program called an Agent System [4], which collects monitoring data automatically at a remote site via the Internet. The Agent System with intelligent processing can perform complicated operations to Field Servers autonomously according to user requirements, and can also perform a wide range of data analyses flexibly by accessing Web application services with data processing.…”

“…One of the key technologies in field monitoring is a sensor network system constructed of many sensor nodes made up of small sensor units with radio data links [1,2]. In our previous studies, we have proposed a "Field Server": namely, a Web-based sensor network system for agricultural use [3,4]. Field Servers can monitor farm information, including field environment, crop growth condition, and farm operations more effectively than conventional sensor networks.…”

“…The environmental sensor node must work in real time and be adaptable to changes in the installation locations and conditions (Fukatsu et al 2006, Moga et al 2012). Low power consumption, low cost, robustness, and being extendable are also desirable to improve performance (Song et al 2011).…”
