Age-related diagnostic utility of rheumatoid factor, anticyclic citrullinated peptide and antikeratin antibodies in Chinese patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract: Objectives: Retrospective study to evaluate the diagnostic utility of rheumatoid factor (RF), anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPA) and antikeratin antibodies (AKA) in a broad age range of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: Clinical and serological data from patients with RA were collected and analysed. Patients were stratified according to age (<16 years [juvenile idiopathic arthritis; JIA], 16-40 years; 41-60 years and >60 years) and sex. Results: The study included 3725 patients.… Show more

“…One study in Chinese rheumatoid arthritis patients evaluated differences in age and anti-CCP antibody status. In this study, similar proportions of patients in the 16-40, 41-60, and >60-year age groups had positive anti-CCP antibodies 13 . In accordance with ACR guidelines for RA 14 , first-line treatments for patients with RA in this study were mostly nonbiologic DMARDs.…”

“…In this study, the sensitivity of RF, anti-CCP antibody, anti-RA 33 antibody, AKA, and GPI was 83.3%, 68.5%, 16.6%, 20.8%, and 77.9% respectively; the specificity was 88.0%, 97.7%, 92.0%, 99.6%, and 86.4% respectively. In studies by Liu et al [ 13 ], Nikbin et al [ 14 ], Lin et al [ 15 ], Goeldner et al [ 16 ], and Zhu et al [ 17 ], the sensitivity of RF ranged from 56.2% to 81.5%, and the specificity ranged from 61.3% to 83.5% in RA patients. In studies by Liu et al [ 13 ], Lin et al [ 15 ], Debaugnies et al [ 18 ], and Shidara et al [ 19 ], the sensitivity of anti-CCP antibody ranged from 51.2% to 76.5%, and the specificity ranged from 89.9% to 99.0% in RA patients.…”
