Age- and Sex-Related Aortic Valve Dysfunction and Aortopathy Difference in Patients with Bicuspid Aortic Valve

Abstract: Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital heart disease. Different distribution of valve dysfunction was found in patients with BAV in different age and sex groups, but related difference was not well established. The aim of our study is to investigate age-and sex-related clinical characteristics differences in patients with BAV. “…However, women with BAV are more likely to develop AS than men, regardless of age of presentation (≤50 years: 75% vs 34%; 51–60 years: 78% vs 37%; 61–70 years: 94% vs 70%). Men ≤70 years with BAV more often present with aortic regurgitation (AR), although the frequency of development of AR in men with BAV decreases with age 6.
