Age and Paleobathymetry of Salodik Group in PohPagimana section, East Arm of Sulawesi Based on Foraminiferal Assemblages

Abstract: Planktonic and benthic foraminiferal assemblages were used for age and paleobathymetry analysis of outcropping carbonate succession of the Salodik Group in Poh–Pagimana section, East Arm of Sulawesi. Twenty spot samples of carbonate rocks were collected from cut slope along the road between Poh and Pagimana. Age analysis conducted for each sample by its planktonic foraminifera assemblages and group into their age interval. The age range from Early Eocene to Pliocene. Benthic foraminiferal assemblages indicate … Show more

“…Research on biostratigraphy in the Banggai Basin has been carried out by several researchers, including Putri et al (2018), Fakhruddin and Kurniadi (2019), Prabawa et al (2020), andYoga et al (2020). Putri et al (2018) stated that the Mantawa Formation and the Minahaki Formation were deposited at the Late Miocene-Early Pliocene age in the Restricted Interior Platform depositional facies.…”

“…Putri et al (2018) stated that the Mantawa Formation and the Minahaki Formation were deposited at the Late Miocene-Early Pliocene age in the Restricted Interior Platform depositional facies. Meanwhile, Fakhruddin and Kurniadi (2019) used outcrop samples from the Tertiary carbonate rock group on the Poh -Pagimana stratigraphic transect. The analysis of foraminifera shows, the relative age of these rock groups is Early Miocene -Pliocene, and the depositional environment is from the middle shelf to the upper bathyal.…”

“…In the Poh-Pagimana area, the Poh Formation based on regional geology map [2] is regarded as Salodik Formation [11], which is comprised of packstone, wackestone, grainstone, and rudstone, interbedded with marl that was deposited in the Early Eocene-Pliocene age with varied paleobathymetry from middle shelf to upper bathyal setting.…”
