“…The transitional individuals are mainly between 260 and 380 mm in length, indicating that sexual succession takes place mainly between the second and the fourth years of life (Domínguez‐Seoane et al., 2006). No transitional individuals were observed by Micale et al.…”

“…Micale et al (1996) found that D. puntazzo is an ambisexual species. Other data on biological aspects of this species concerning the age and growth (Domı´nguez-Seoane et al, 2006) and feeding (Atienza et al, 2004) have been published.…”

“…We estimated adult body size as the median of all L inf values reported for each species in the online database Fishbase (Froese et al, 2000). As L inf was not documented in Fishbase for D. puntazzo and C. galerita, we took the median of the values reported in (Kraljević et al, 2007) and (Domínguez-Seoane et al, 2006) for D. puntazzo, and the maximum length observed in (Milton, 1983) For all species of this study, this corresponded to egg diameter, except for brooders, for which we used hatching size. All propagule size data were retrieved from species-specific references.…”

“…This function has only three parameters, making it statistically robust compared with models with more parameters (Booth, 1997), and its parameters are commonly used in mortality estimates and fisheries stock assessment modeling (Domínguez et al, 2006). This model was chosen as the most appropriate model for the data based on the comparison of the AIC.…”

“…This approach avoids any potential bias in growth estimates due to the difference in sampling dates (Domínguez et al, 2006). Thus, the age for adults caught before and after 1 April was calculated, respectively, as follows:…”
