Age and Formation Conditions of U Mineralization in the Litsa Area and the Salla-Kuolajarvi Zone (Kola Region, Russia)

Abstract: The Kola region (NE of Fennoscandian Shield) has high uranium potential. The most promising structures within the Kola region in respect to uranium enrichment are the Litsa area and the Salla-Kuolajarvi zone. The principal objective of the present study was to define sequence and timing of uranium deposition within these areas. Isotopic (U-Pb and Rb-Sr) exploration of the rocks from Skal’noe and Dikoe U occurrences of the Litsa area and Ozernoe occurrences of the Salla-Kuolajarvi zone was carried out. As it fo… Show more

“…The Skal'noe and Dikoe sites are the largest ore occurrences with the 2.6-2.3 Ga REE-Th-U mineralization [32]. The rocks within the sites are represented by migmatized biotite, garnet-biotite and two-mica gneisses of the Kola Group more strongly deformed in the Dikoe area, and plagiogranites intercalated with amphibole gneisses, amphibolite bodies, and cross-cutting gabbro-dolerite dykes.…”

“…Dikoe ore occurrence is located ≈ 20 km to the northeast from the Beregovoe ore occurrence at the intersection of the Litsa-Araguba and Titovka-Uraguba tectonic zones (Figure 1). Two types of ore-bearing rocks with uranium mineralization have been distinguised in this area: pegmatoid vein granitoids and quartz-feldspathic metasomatites [18,19]. The principal difference between these sites (for the purposes of our study) is that on the site Dikoe rocks with uranium mineralization are exposed at the surface.…”

“…Rocks and ores from the Beregovoe and Dikoe areas ( Figure 1) of the Litsa uranium ore zone were chosen to be an object of this study. Within the Litsa area, there were more than 30 uranium hydrothermal ore occurrences found, whose localization is controlled by fault and shear zones [18,19], which makes it a perfect test ground for the study.…”
