Agar gel immunodiffusion test (AGID) evaluation for detection of bovine paratuberculosis in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Abstract: Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the AGID serological test for detection of antibodies anti-Mycobacterium paratuberculosis and its possible adoption as diagnostic method in our field conditions. Methods: Bovine serum samples from dairy herds in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, were screened for the presence of antibodies against Myco. paratuberculosis using three different ELISA tests. A panel of 48 randomly selected sera were evaluated by an Agarose Gel Immunodiffusion (AGID) test using Protoplasmatic … Show more

“…This test is economical and mostly reliable in small ruminants. AGID test in unsatisfactory for subclinical cases due to low (Ferreira et al, 2002), but it gives reliable results in clinical cases (Mohan et al, 2013;RobbeAusterman et al, 2006).…”

“…Despite considerable research efforts aimed at development of better fecal processing and detection methods, the sensitivity of fecal cultures remains low. Serologic tests such as agar gel immunodiffusion (18), complement fixation (23), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (9,15,23) are limited in their use because of both low specificity and sensitivity (7,15,47).…”
