Ag2S and MoS2 as dual, co-catalysts for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutions over CdS

Abstract: CdS photocatalysts loaded with Ag 2 S and MoS 2 as dual co-catalysts were prepared via a one-step in situ hydrothermal method using CdCl 2 Á2.5H 2 O, H 2 MoO 4 , AgNO 3 Á9H 2 O, and CS(NH 2 ) 2 as the raw materials. The as-prepared photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron micrograph, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectra, and UltravioletVisible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS). The highest photocatalytic degra… Show more

“…Organic dyes such as rhodamine B (RhB), particularly, have been widely used in some chemical industries we are using in our daily life. [1][2][3] Wastewater containing such organic dyes will lead to severe environmental pollution. Photocatalysis has been proved to be an effective method that can degrade organic contaminants in the wastewater using solar energy.…”

“…Furthermore, MoS 2 can effectively transfer photogenerated electrons and avoid carrier recombination as a co‐catalyst by reducing the overpotential generated during the catalytic process to improve the performance of the catalytic system . More than that, the system of MoS 2 /CdS has solved the weakness of low hydrogen evolution performance of pure CdS …”
