Ag3PO4 Oxygen Evolution Photocatalyst Employing Synergistic Action of Ag/AgBr Nanoparticles and Graphene Sheets

Abstract: A graphene-supported Ag 3 PO 4 /Ag/AgBr water oxidation photocatalyst was prepared by a photoassisted deposition−precipitation reaction, followed by a hydrothermal treatment. The composite photocatalyst exhibits double the O 2 -production activity than that of bare Ag 3 PO 4 under visible light irradiation. Moreover, it exhibits enhanced activity in comparison to unsupported Ag 3 PO 4 /Ag/AgBr, to graphenesupported bare Ag 3 PO 4 powder as well as to Ag/AgBr powder. This increase in activity is attributed to a… Show more

“…Additionally, the intensity of C 1s peaks for carbon atoms bonded to oxygen decreased rapidly in the hybrid, indicating that most of the oxygen groups were removed ( Figure S9, Supporting Information). [ 31 ] Infrared spectroscopy (IR) measurements showed that after thermal treatment ( Figure S10, Supporting Information), almost all of the oxygen functional groups, such as C=O (1728 cm −1 ) and C-OH (1235 cm −1 ) bonds, vanished in the hybrid, indicating an effective reduction of GO. [ 32 ] The new band observed in the 1616-1342 cm −1 region was related to the vibrations of C=C and C=N, [ 33 ] which further confi rms the successful doping of nitrogen.…”

“…In addition, under UV/visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic oxidation of H 2 O to O 2 can be realized by AgCl nanoparticles with the presence of a small excess of silver ions in solution [242,392,393]. The overall reaction process can be summarized as the following equations: [394].…”

“…Therefore, recently much more effort has been devoted to design Ag/AgX (X = Cl, Br, I) composite materials due to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of metallic Ag [1,[17][18][19][20], which can dramatically enhance the absorption of visible light (VL) and provide new opportunities to develop VLD photocatalysts [21]. For example, it has been demonstrated that Ag/AgX (X = Cl,Br) [14], Ag/AgBr/TiO 2 [19,22], and graphene sheets grafted Ag@AgCl [23] showed an enhanced VLD photocatalytic activity to degrade various organic pollutants in water.…”
