Afforestation of Marginal Land to Meet the Needs of Local Communities in South Africa

Abstract: SYNOPSISThe need for and policies relating to the establishment of woodlots in rural areas of Southern Africa, particularly those areas where conditions for the planting of exotic trees are unfavourable, are described. The silvicultural techniques followed and some suitable species used are mentioned and a short account is given of progress made with the establishment of woodlots in South Africa.
