Affordable Electric Three-Wheeler in Bangladesh: Prospects, Challenges, and Sustainable Solutions

Abstract: With rapid urbanization and population growth, there has been a significant increase in the demand for public transport. Fossil-fuel-based internal combustion vehicles are increasingly fulfilling the transport demand and are creating negative impact on the environment. Electric three-wheeler (E3W) vehicles have better prospects in public transport in Bangladesh. The demand and usage of E3W vehicles are increasing rapidly because of their pollution-free and passenger-friendly services. However, there are many c… Show more

“…The contradiction here is that though “sustainable design” approaches are supposed to minimize dependency on non-renewable energy sources (Williams, 2007), the fact that the pre-existing vernacular models have intrinsically achieved that within their architectural apparatus should prove its merits effortlessly in guiding resilient design practices (Hossain, 2013). The strategies and methods that have been incorporated in these traditional houses are true manifestations of sustainable living and therefore are the key to understanding how a built environment can be designed to respond well to its context not only in rural but also in urban settings.…”

“…Compared to developed and emerging economies, three-wheel vehicles, commonly known as three-wheelers, remain an affordable solution to the problem of transportation facing many countries in Southeast Asia. Consequently, the growing usage of electric three-wheelers offers pollution-free and passenger-friendly services (Hossain et al, 2022) representing an affordable solution to curb CO2 emissions in public transportation in many developing countries. Furthermore, the lightweight and short driving distances of electric three-wheelers can help reduce signi cantly the issues related to the requirements of charging infrastructure (International Energy Agency, 2022a).…”
