The notion of place has raised great concern within weaving tourism studies in recent decades. Nevertheless, dialectical indigenous considerations of Edward Relph’s phenomenological concepts of place and placelessness are still insufficient, particularly in non-Western countries. Phenomenology, as an immersive approach, provides an open and descriptive examination of the diverse perceptions and constitutive meanings of a place. From a phenomenological perspective, this article aims to explore the dynamic grasping of place and placelessness in tourism experiences. Twenty-four tourists participated in the research in Marco Polo Plaza in Italian Style Town, a concession for a particular historical period, in Tianjin, China. The findings suggest that tourists’ experiences could be ordered into three themes: (1) encountering a place labelled recreation and entertainment, (2) encountering an exotic heterogeneous place, and (3) encountering a lived place in the lifeworld. These results emphasize that place and placelessness are intertwined paradoxically beyond the binary, and such a nonlinear, dialectical, and subtle dimension is the possible inspiration that the phenomenological perspective brings to tourism research. Drawing on the inevitability of tourists’ diverse perceptions, we advance that an open multi-sensuous engagement and inclusive geographic practices offer an insight into the understanding of sustainability.

Bali has a basic philosophy whose inspiration comes from the comos-theos-antropos aging by integrating the teachings of Balinese Hinduism-Balinese nature and Balinese people as the basic orientation in all ideas and cultural artworks, resulting in a special attraction in each of its artworks. The data collection method was carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation, as well as design design using the Corel Draw 2020 design program. The research resulted in six ready-to-wear semi-couture fashion designs for adult women's evening parties. This fashion collection is named Reminiscence which means lifting the roots of local Balinese culture, namely the Kamasan Wayang dragon. These six designs are designed using shimmer silk, Balinese woven, and tulle. Kamasan puppet designs are applied to different positions in each design. The first group design in the first design, the Kamasan puppet dragon design position was applied to the front position of the chest circling back to the front pelvis. The second design position of the Kamasan puppet dragon design on woven cloth is tucked around the waist like a Balinese dancer's fashion shawl. The third design positions the dragon head design on the front chest fit. The second group of designs in the first design positions the Kamasan puppet dragon design on the elongated woven fabric. The second design scraped the position of the elongated design. Design the third design position on the chest fit. Fashion design is the dress for all six designs. The design character of the first group is feminine sexy and the design character of the second group is feminine elegant. Dress variations are bolero, obi, and blazer.

In the process of Islamization of Nusantara, there was an interaction between Islam and local civilizations in various regions of Nusantara, which then became attractive objects for tourist gaze, including in Bali. Some areas such as Denpasar, Badung and Bangli were not much known as the entrance points of Islam in Bali. Tourist gaze has been concentrated on pleasure and leisure with a focus on popular tourist attractions and hotelaccommodations, as well as cultural authenticities. This article aims to explore the potential of tourism industry by promoting the aspect of interreligiosity (such as between Balinese Hindu and Islam) to reconstruct the religious-friendly tourism of Bali. The study employed principles of netnography and literature study. The data was obtained from the internet, books, and journals, as well as a systematic literature review through Publish or Perish (PoP). The data is presented in narrative analysis and interpretations. The results of the study suggest that inter-religiosity could be integrated into the tourism industry. Some religious-friendly tourist destinations can be reconstructed through representations of inter-religious relationships in Denpasar, Badung, and Bangli. As such, religious-friendly tourism could support the development of harmonious life for a sustainable civilization. For further research, it is suggested to conduct research on other tourist gaze areas that are limited by this work.
