Defects of the upper lip may result from trauma or surgical resection of tumors. 1 Lip defects not only seriously impact facial appearance and symmetry, but may also affect the function of facial expression, pronunciation, food chewing, and digestion. The upper lip consists of multiple aesthetic subunits, including the paramedian peaks, labial tubercle, philtral columns, and vermilion border. 2 During cosmetic repair, supplemental consideration should be regarded in protecting the anatomical landmarks of the upper lip, especially the symmetry of the oral commissure and the continuity of Cupid's bow 3 (Figure 1).
