“…6 Donders also records abnormal status of lactobacilli, that is, their absence, which is a negative factor and enables development of infection, especially in pregnancy. [7][8][9][10][11] In our study most common organism is the E. Coli amounting 34% followed by Candidial spp. 21%.…”

“…Since the extent of the inflammatory reaction has a particularly important role in the pathogenesis of preterm deliveries (Jacobson et al, 2003), the association of E. coli in the presence of leucocytosis found in our study can be important. Increased vaginal leucocytosis is associated with higher concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines present in the vagina and with enzymatic activity, leading to preterm contractions and intrauterine infections (Donders et al, 2002;Romero et al, 2002;Larsson et al, 2006). A study of metronidazole treatment of AVM in pregnancy showed no benefit from this treatment -even worse -rates of preterm birth increased in the metronidazole group, which was explained by increased E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in the vagina at delivery (Carey et al, 2005).…”

“…LBG III was further divided in three subgroups: bacterial vaginosis (BV), aerobic vaginitis (AV) and a mixed AV-BV microflora. AV was diagnosed if short bacilli or cocci, leucocytes and/or parabasal cells were found (Donders, 2002). Patterns with decreased or absent lactobacillus morphotypes (LBG IIb and LBG III) were considered as AVM (Donders, 1999).…”

“…В зарубеж-ной литературе АВ признан самостоятельной нозологической формой и характеризуется как воспалительный процесс во влагалище, воз-никающий в результате значительного увели-чения численности аэробной факультативной патогенной флоры [35,36]. В своей работе G. Donders et al (2001) предложили использо-вать термин «аэробный вагинит» и выявили наиболее частых представителей микрофлоры, приводящих к развитию воспалительного забо-левания: Streptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus spp., Klebsiella spp. [36].…”
