Abstract:Methyloteneraare signature denitrifiers and methylotrophs commonly found together with methanotrophic bacteria in lakes and freshwater sediments. Here we show that three distinctMethyloteneraecotypes were abundant in methane-rich, Pleistocene-aged groundwaters.
