“…3 Aeroallergen sensitization also associates with asthma severity. [4][5][6] Previous studies have shown that an increase in wheal size and the number of allergens to which a person is sensitized correlates with an increase in the severity of rhinitis and asthma. 4,6 Allergen sensitization is demonstrated by the presence of serum-specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) to allergens.…”

“…This review also showed that sensitization "pattern varies with ethnicity, location of residance, and onset of asthma, but not age". The same author described two years earlier in a population of mild-to-moderate athma patients 14 % of these showing a sensitization only to 1 or 2 aeroallergens but 81 % showing a polysensitization to at least 3 aeroallergens (Craig et al, 2008). He was also able to demonstrate a correlation between sensitization and factors characterising asthma as exhaled nitric oxide measures as a sign of inflammation activity and lung function values.…”

“…Poly sensitization is a clinically significant immunological phenomenon [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. The increasing number of sensitizations seems to characterize the natural history of allergic patient and may represent a typical evolution of allergy.…”
