Adverse reactions of vancomycin in humans

Abstract: Background: Vancomycin is effective against Gram-positive bacteria and considered as a last resort in the case of ineffective use of other antigens. While due to the occurrence of adverse reactions, the application of vancomycin is strictly limited. We will conduct a meta-analysis to summarize adverse reactions of vancomycin in humans. Methods: To collect comprehensive randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the following electronic databases wil… Show more

“…Vancomycin infusion through the PVC also had an impact on the occurrence of local complications, as already reported (Sorrell & Collignon, 1985); the results of an ongoing meta-analysis on adverse reactions to vancomycin may help corroborate or refute this finding (Peng et al, 2020). Other antibiotics also increased the risk of local PVC complications, as reported previously for dicloxacillin, cloxacillin, erythromycin and cefuroxime (Lanbeck et al, 2002).…”

“…Sodium valproate, vancomycin, and linezolid are the common drugs associated with DILI[ 5 , 7 , 8 ]. Among all the adverse reactions of vancomycin, most are rapid onset, and renal injury occurs more frequently than liver injury[ 9 ]. Common adverse reactions of linezolid include myelotoxicity and peripheral and optic neuropathy[ 10 ].…”

“…However, severe diarrhea, hearing loss, angioedema, neutropenia, nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, and Van flushing syndrome (VFS, with quite varying incidences, were reported as non-negligible adverse effects of this antibiotic. These adverse effects strongly concern patients with diabetes, renal impairment, and hypersensitivity [ 35 , 37 ].…”
