Adverse events reporting in stage III NSCLC trials investigating surgery and radiotherapy

Abstract: BackgroundCurrent treatment options for stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) consist of different combinations of chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. Treatment choices are highly individual decisions, in which adverse events (AEs) are relevant for decision-making. This study aims to analyse reporting of AEs in prospective stage III NSCLC trials, focussing on trials including radiotherapy and/or surgery.MethodsPubMed was searched for prospective studies dealing with stage III NSCLC fr… Show more

“…Patient preference may be challenging in clinical practice as a multitude of emotions and biases influence shared decisionmaking (43,46). This process is even further complicated by the limited availability of patient-relevant informationsuch as detailed information from side effects from clinical trials in this setting (47). Potentially a third party acting as an intermediary between the specialists may be of value in providing an un-biased view (e.g., pneumologist or general practitioner).…”

“…Lung cancer is the most common and fast-growing malignant tumor in China ( 20 ). The high ability of cancer cells to invade and metastasize is the main reason limiting the improvement of survival after lung cancer surgery ( 21 , 22 ). Recent studies have found that lanatoside C has potential anti-tumor cell proliferation effects, and its anti-tumor mechanism mainly focuses on induction of autophagy, cell cycle arrest and induction of cell death, and has a good inhibitory effect on liver cancer and gastric cancer ( 18 , 19 , 23 ).…”

“…It is essential to consider individual preferences while actively engaging in a shared decisionmaking process with the patient. While side effects are relevant for the decision-making of patients, unfortunately side-effect reporting has been rather poor in historical trials (48). Hopefully side effects and quality of life will be better recorded and reported in future trials.…”
