“…Possible explanation for this gender difference in ADR incidence could be a gender specific difference in in body mass index, fat composition, drug susceptibility, hormonal effects on drug metabolism and elimination, or genetic constitutional differences on the levels of various enzymes although the same has not been proven conclusively. [13][14][15] In the present study, the prevalence of ADRs was higher in 26-35 years (51.38%) followed by 36-45 years age group (26.61%). These results are in concordance with previous study results by Kiran Reddy AV et al This could be explained as most of the patients in the study were belonged to the age group of 21-40 years.…”

“…[17] Possible explanation for this gender difference is because of the incidence of AIDS in male, hormonal effect on drug metabolism, body mass index, and genetic constitution. [161819] In this study, ADRs were most commonly found in the age group of 38–48 years followed by 27–37 years. Almost similar results were found in the study of Agu and Oparah and Patel et al .…”

“…In our study, males were more affected than females which is similar to other studies as shown in Table 3. [141516] However, in other studies, females were commonly affected. [17] Possible explanation for this gender difference is because of the incidence of AIDS in male, hormonal effect on drug metabolism, body mass index, and genetic constitution.…”

“…Results are in concordance with the study conducted by Patel NM et al They found most of the ADRs were moderate (88.69%) followed by mild (8.39%) and severe (2.92%) according to modified Hartwig and Siegel scale. 9 Even though human immunodeficiency virus is the initial causative agent in AIDS, but most of the morbidity and mortality in AIDS cases result from opportunistic infections. Hence recognition of such pathogen is very important for clinicians and health planners to deal with the AIDS epidemic in more effective manner.…”

“…This should facilitate the management of an individual patient to a greater level of satisfaction. 9 Although the therapeutic goals of ART include achieving and maintaining viral suppression and improving immune function, an overall goal should be to select a regimen that is not only effective but also is safe. This requires consideration of not only the toxicity potential of the ARV drugs but also an individual patient's underlying conditions, concomitant medications, and prior history of drug intolerances.…”
