Advantages and limitations of using foamed bitumen

Abstract: Foamed asphalt refers to a bituminous mixture of road-building aggregates and foamed bitumen, produced by a cold mix process. There are a lot of related issue that has not been sufficiently investigated so far. It is worthwhile to overview the main theoretical and practical results in the field in several countries including those of the authors of the paper. It is clear that the foamed asphalt is usually characterized by high quality and reasonable cost, can be used in cold road pavement rehabilitation, in ad… Show more

“…The mix design aims to develop a JMF pertaining the details of the mix preparation (Eisa et al , 2019). Further, some studies are mostly concentrated on foaming bitumen, water content and differ in terms of optimization of binder content, compaction pattern; Marshall, vibratory or gyratory compactor and curing conditions (Kranthi et al , 2016; Kar et al , 2017a; Saleh and Gáspár, 2021). Marshall’s method of compaction is very well considered for preparing the specimen of the hot bituminous mix in the Indian standard codes.…”

“…In 2019, the CPA finished the preliminary draft of reclaimed cold-mix asphalt pavement regulations [3]. Cold recycle technology with Foamed asphalt is considerably cost-effective, and environmentally friendly [4]. On the development, Foamed asphalt was found to be able to apply to reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) [1] [5].…”

“…Multiple research papers concerning mix design procedures, comparison of different CIR technologies, as well as performance and construction aspects have been published, as shown, for example, in [7]. During the last decades, CIR technology utilizing foamed asphalt (FA) has gained popularity [8] due to the efficient use of a variety of existing materials, such as crushed stone, gravels, and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). Other benefits include relatively short construction period and improved traffic safety.…”
